This project challenged students to take an existing product and conceptualize a gen 2 redesign. Our team decided to create a lightweight women's work jacket. This was not just an update to an existing jacket, but a mash-up of our favourite elements from two different jackets.
The first, Prana's Rock Ridge Jacket: a lightweight outerwear jacket with nods to workwear, but with a stylish appeal and a more feminine silhouette.
The second, Carhartt's iconic washed duck sierra jacket: A heavy, sherpa-lined jacket, built for the toughest of work tasks.
We retained the collar, sleeve placket, cuffs, lightweight lining and silhouette of the prana jacket, and the bi-swing back, arm articulation, interior pockets and tougher shell material of the carhartt jacket. we also made the hood removable.
The result is a lightweight workwear jacket, marketed under the Carhartt brand, that is appropriate both on the construction site and in the boardroom.
